Rocking horses and trendy people on Upper Street

Hello all!

I usually meet my friends in Brixton, or the South Bank, but yesterday, I had a rehearsal meeting in the trendy Islington. I haven't been there for a while now, so after a very productive meeting, it was a nice treat to spend the afternoon browsing through antique and vintage stalls and of course spending a little bit of money too. I'll show you my goodies in the next post, but for now, here are a few interesting things I saw.

My obsession with rocking horses continues. This one is absolutely divine:

This one is less fabulous, but it still deserves a mention:

On to another beauty. I walked up and down this little street quite a few times over the 3-4 hours I was there and this man did not move from his chair. Just for his stoic perseverance to stay seated here in the cold weather for so long, has earned him a place on my blog.

I love this girl's hair piece and make up (as ever, click on the images to enlarge):

And as I was walking back to the Angel tube station, I came across these beautiful flowers. Only it turns out that what makes the picture interesting is not the actual flowers, but the legs of the flower seller in the corner. I was about to ask him to take a picture of him lounging in his chair, but thought better of it. This makes it a much more interesting image.

I hope your Saturday was relaxing and you came across some interesting people and details around you.
Have a fab week.

Love your first two photos, I also love rocking horses. When I was around 5 or 6 and living in the UK, my parents bought me a rocking hose from Switzerland. The first photo looks much like I remember it. Thanks for the memory. Diane

Hello Diane.
Wow, you must have been really excited (and felt very lucky) to get such a present. I used to put a few pennies into a rocking horse in front of a supermarket and have ride. They were automatic ones, but it still did the trick!

I love walking around the Shoreditch area during the weekends ( I live in Primrose Hill). I think my favourite Sunday spot will have to be the Columbia Rd Flower market (despite being touristy et al!)

Hello Red:
We have Russian friends who live off the Holloway Road and so we occasionally find ourselves in Islington. As you say, it is a most interesting area and the antique shops are a particular delight.
We think that not too far from where you were is Aston Matthews, an absolute Aladdin's cave for everything to do with the bathroom.

When we lived in London our favourite Sunday jaunt was to Columbia Road flower market with breakfast in the pub on the corner, the name of which now escapes us.

I've always wanted to have a rocking horse standing in a low level bay window of my house. So far, don't have any of the above, but if I do get a house like this, I'll definitely get a horse, too. :)

I'm not going to lie - I'm very sorry, but the hair on the first rocking horse creeps me out a little bit! I like the second better.
