Step Back, Breath and Enjoy the Beauty Around You

Hello all!!

My half term week started in style. Right after work last Friday friends and I went to see new James Bond movie, Skyfall and collectively, we really, really liked it. I don't think that the movie merits more than that. It was good fun. The movie was followed by a few drinks in a warm pub.
In my world, a pretty perfect way to start a holiday.

And then today, I spent the day with people I love and enjoy being with. I had a terrible nightmare last night, and couldn't shake it off for a few hours after I woke up, but having delicious mince pies, coffee and good conversation, made everything better.

Mince pies were provided by the amazing Heston Blumenthal via Waitrose:

Tin Tin joined us for coffee:

And after a dinner at a lovely Tapas Bar in Clapham Common, I opened my belated birthday present:

This person knows me really well. I can't live without a Moleskin diary and journal.

So, after waking up on the wrong side of bed this morning, all I needed was good people around me and a few small treats.

I'll leave you with something that caught my eye the other day. Often, people concentrate on the negative and how things aren't as good as they'd like them to be. Sometimes, all we need is to step back, breath and look for the beauty around us:

"For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness."

Easier said than done, I know, but well worth a try.

Hope you'll all be able to appreciate the good around you and spend some time with people that make you happy.

Hello Red:
How right you are about the uplifting effects of friendly conversation and comforting food. Your holiday sounds to have got off to a cracking start and we hope that the rest of your well deserved break is relaxing and fun.

The Mince Pies look wonderful. They are so variable and, regrettably, far too often a disappointment. The Pine Sugar dusting surely makes all the difference.

And, a belated happy birthday!! How wonderful to receive a Moleskine notebook. Joy!!

Seeing the new James Bond and then hanging out in a pub with good friends afterwards sounds just about perfect! Don't laugh but I've never had a mince pie, they look delicious though. And happy belated birthday, it sounds like it's been a good one.

p.s. I am planning a trip to London in January--would love to meet you for a cup of coffee or lunch or something if you're around!

What a great saying I must try to remember that! My Dad had red hair as do I, and I also inherited his temper!!! It generally blow over fairly quickly but it flares very easily.

Sounds like you had a good day out. Belated Happy Birthday. Diane

Moleskines are the best! I also had a terrible dream; something with a lady on drugs on the train station that started shooting around with a gun and I needed to escape. Craziest part was not that, but that I got shot, was in the hospital and actually felt relieved for not having to stress about my final master project in the hospital bed. Then I woke up, and realised I shouldn't be taking my project this seriously :p
